Lebanon’s Prime Minister Says He Will Step Down Following Beirut Explosion and Mass Protests


(BEIRUT) — Lebanon’s prime minister says he’s stepping down from his job within the wake of the Beirut port explosion final week that triggered public fury and mass protests.

In a quick televised speech, Prime Minister Hassan Diab mentioned on Monday that he’s taking “a step again” so he can stand with the folks “and combat the battle for change alongside them.”

He mentioned: “I declare immediately the resignation of this authorities. Might God shield Lebanon,” repeating the final phrase 3 times.
